*** Jesus was a great Teacher & Orator. He carried the wisdom of the Ages with Him! His enemies were trying their best to trip Him up, but to no avail. (v.15) When they ask Him the question - "What is the greatest commandment", He really 'blew' them away! We must admit Jesus is "God Almighty", greatest & wisest of all eternity.
Even though they were trying to stump Him, He used it as an opportunity to teach them, and all of us something! He says to them that the first & greatest commandment in the Law was to LOVE THE LORD thy GOD with all your...
1. Heart! = Emotions
2. Soul! = Spirit (inner being)
3. Mind! = Thoughts & Imagination
Elsewhere He adds "with all thy body"! I would take that to mean, to show how much we love Him, by our actions! Can we say that we are obeying this important commandment. The enemies of the Lord were not living up to the # 1 commandment! They might have had some of the others down pretty pat, but they all came up short on this one, -- as we all do! (Rom. 3:10, 23)
We need to turn our hearts, souls, minds, & bodies over to the Lord. When we commit to Him our way (Psa. 37:5), He then is able to take control, through His Holy Spirit, of our lives! Only through Him can we fullfil the greatest commandment. So what Jesus is really telling them, is to give up on themselves and trust in Him! (Prov. 3:5, 6)
By the way, Jesus attaches an addendum to it...
Mat 22:39 And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
Mat 22:40 On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.
So there you have what is important to Jesus. He loves us, He wants us to love Him, and then, and only then can we love others as ourselves. Wow, this would change the church, couldn't it! (shouldn't it)

*** With our beloved America in two wars over in the Middle East, these verses remind us of, how important it is for our soldiers to be prepared for battle! They are fighting with a formidable foe, that seeks to destroy them. So are we, as Christians, in a fight to the death. There are some things to note about our Battle:
1. It is "spiritual", not physical battle! (Eph. 6:12)
2. "They" have a leader, the 'Devil'! (Eph.6:11) We have a leader, Jesus Christ! (Eph. 6:10)
3. The greatest thing we can do is "put on the armour" and be loyal (v.12) The worst thing a soldier can do, is to "not withstand or stand up" against the enemy, and thus become a "traitor" (a deserter)!
Many a christian have given up, (become deserters) and quit the "good fight of faith" (1 Tim. 6:12) Some christians have gotten into the heat of a spiritual battle and got knocked around. This only happens when we go into battles unprepared. We must "put on" (array) ourselves with God's armour. Array (clothe) yourself with truth, righteousness, a godly witness, faith & faithfulness, full assurance of salvation, the Word of God, and prayer. Then and only then, will we see blessing and success..
Jos 1:8 This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.
One last thing to note in winning spiritual battles: "Above all, taking the shield of faith," One part of the armour seems to stand above the rest, "the Shield of Faith"! This is essential if we're going to be victorious in our christian lives. We must TRUST God all the time & all the way. So go forward, do your part, then watch God do His part!
Prayer: May God help us to be victorious!

*** Now here is a verse that gives us great encouragement. When we realize how many names the LORD goes by, then it makes perfect sense for us to run to Him! A strong tower keeps us protected from harm & the enemies of our soul. A tower also provides a great view of what's around us.
So when we get to the top, two things happen:
1. We're above all the problems below!
2. We're closer to God than we know!
Our safety is of the utmost importance to the LORD. Proverbs 21:31 says, "safety is of the LORD". We are safe in Christ, and this gives us the confidence that we need to live for Him.
So with this verse we learn three great truthes:
1) God's Name means & does something for us.
2) When we have Christ, and live in His righteousness, we know where to go for safety.
3) We are assured of God's omnipotence to protect, sustain, and refresh us.
*** Have you trusted in Christ for salvation? If so, then trust Him for safety. Place yourself where you are closer to God, where your strength can be renewed!
